Heat-shrink protective sleeves provide mechanical strength and moisture protection of the two fibers fusion joint.
The sleeve consists of a steel bar, an inner tube made of hot melt adhesive and an outer heat shrink tube.
Steel bar provides mechanical strength of the fusion splice.
When the protective sleeve is heated, the hot-melt adhesive melts and fills the space around the fusion joint, the outer heat-shrink tube seals the adhesive making the structure solid.
